Doug's Bird Feeding Page

This is a place for me to keep notes about bird feeders/feeding/etc. Maybe this will be organized in the future, but for now some bullet points/scattered notes will do.

• I have two bird feeders in the backyard, hung on the either side of the same pole. One is a tray style feeder, while the other is cylinder style. I should upload pics.
• Different birds like different bird seed. Who knew?
• Bird seed companies are like any other, and will always try to squeeze as much profit from something as they can. To do this, they will commonly use "filler" seed that birds don't like as much in order to fill the seed bag fuller. The most common of these is Red Millet. As far as I can tell, no native North American birds eat that naturally, so it is a complete waste. The house sparrows and finches that I have just throw the seed on the ground. I need to get more high quality stuff.
